This year, more than ever, we are reminded of the important role the Somerset Levels play in providing a habitat for over-wintering birds. The lush summer grazing has gone and in its place are vast areas of wetland.
The RSPB reserves at Ham Wall, Shapwick Heath and Westhay are only a few minutes away and many visitors say that spending a day there was the highlight of their stay at Panniers Farm Cottage.
Notable species include; Bittern, Bearded Tit, Cetti's Warbler, Hobby and or course Starling. For information on roosting starlings call 07866 554142 or email starlings@rspb.org.uk or visit the RSPB Ham Wall page here |
